A calm but not quiet winter's day

Twas the night before Christmas and winds across the lake went calm.

As the lake froze over, a light snow fell leaving a tranquil scene.

As I stepped out to get this picture, it was noisy  - what's going on??

 

  

 When out on the lake there arose such a clatter

I looked to my right to see what was the matter.

When what to my wondering eyes should I see

but millions of geese - shouting Christmas greetings to each other.

 

Then up to the house tops, the coursers they flew

and I heard them exclaim, as they flew out of sight

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

The St. John Lutheran Church's Bell Choir was the highlight of the evening!  It was a great time with neighbors and friends!  Thanks, Lady Lakers for organizing the Lake Wabaunsee Christmas Homes Tour again this year!

On Aug. 20- 21 (from dusk to dawn) will be a blue moon.  Mostly known as the second full moon in a calendar month, it turns out there are more than a few kinds of blue moons out there. The full moon of Aug. 20, 2013, will be considered a seasonal blue moon — the first in nearly three years. Normally, a season has three months, and hence three full moons, but the eccentricities of our calendar mean that once every three years, a season has an extra full moon. The last seasonal blue moon occurred on Nov. 21, 2010, and won’t happen again until May 21, 2016.

As the cool morning air came in through the screen door this morning, I heard "4.2 Nice size for a small mouth." I looked up to see two gentlemen fishermen admiring their catch. "Too bad we didn't bring a camera." "I have one," I answered from the deck and snapped this shot. Here's to the early morning fishermen! Good catch - it went back into the lake...

Family Reunion and Food

 

A Family Reunion is all about spending time together making memories!  Many of our memories were spent preparing food and serving each other.  Sometimes it's a group project and other times the spread is laid out.  Gathering around a smoking grill is a staple at the lake.  But the smores around the camp fire are always favorites!

It's great to see the first blush of fishing fever!  Wouldn't you know it - the 3 year old caught the biggest one!

Celebrating the Summer Solstice today! The longest day of 2013 comes with a twist - the largest & brightest moon of 2013 as well! How are you going to celebrate... The sun slowly rises, bringing up the house lights

A golden glow lights up the skies

And a dock becomes front row seats

for today's performance of -- SUNRISE!

Bring Dad and his fishing pole to the lake and make new family memories.  Have a fish fry with the catch of the day - bring some steaks for backup.  Don't forget the camera!  Father's Day is available at Lake View Barn!
